False Ceiling — India's Obsession
False ceilings (suspended ceilings) have become almost mandatory in modern Indian homes. There are legitimate reasons for this:

Most Indian homes have 9-10 foot ceilings. A false ceiling lowers it by 8-12 inches — bringing the ceiling to 8.5-9 feet. This is perfectly fine for standard rooms. However, avoid ceilings below 8 feet — it gives a claustrophobic feeling. If your original ceiling is already less than 8.5 feet, do not install a false ceiling!

Ceiling Design Ideas — Beyond the White Box!

Create a recessed area at the edges of the ceiling where an LED strip is hidden — indirect, glowing, magical effect! Additional cost: ₹5,000-15,000 extra over a basic false ceiling.
2. Coffered Ceiling
Recessed panels in a grid pattern — traditional, grand look. For large rooms and formal areas. This occurs naturally in wood in heritage homes — replicate the modern version in MDF/gypsum.
3. Tray/Step Ceiling
One step down or up in the center — elegant, adds architectural interest. Popular in master bedrooms and dining rooms.
4. Exposed Beams
Leave real or faux wood beams exposed — rustic/farmhouse vibe. This is natural in traditional Kerala and Rajasthan homes. Replicate this in urban homes with faux beams (₹300-600/foot).
5. Painted Ceiling — Dare to Be Different!
• White ceiling (standard): Room feels open and airy.
• Same color as walls: Room feels taller (cool effect!).
