📖 Grandma's Old Trunk...
Neha had a 50-year-old teak wood trunk in her house that belonged to her grandmother. It looked very heavy and dated. Neha was about to sell it to the scrap dealer for ₹500.
A designer friend stopped her. The trunk was cleaned thoroughly, painted with a "distressed" blue finish, and a piece of glass was placed on top. Now, that trunk is the vintage center table of her living room! Guests compliment it before anything else!

What is Upcycling?
Upcycling means creatively transforming old, unwanted items into new products of higher quality or value. It doesn't just save money; it adds Soul and Story to a home. New furniture is just furniture; old furniture is Heritage!
How to Make Old Furniture New (DIY Tricks)
- 🖌️ Chalk Paint: This is a magic paint! You don't even need to sand the wood before applying it. Paint directly over the old polish. Apply 2 coats, then lightly sand the edges (for a rustic look). This is called a 'Distressed Finish'.
- 🪛 Change the Hardware: Remove the old handles from an old cupboard or dresser and install new, modern brass or ceramic handles. The furniture will instantly feel brand new! (Cost: ₹300).
- 🪑 Chair Upholstery: Changing the seat cushion of a dining chair is the easiest DIY in the world. A staple gun (₹500), new fabric (₹300), and 15 minutes of your time!
🤯 The Value of Solid Wood:
The teak or sheesham available in the market today is "new-growth wood." The wood from 40-50-year-old furniture is "old-growth wood," which is much denser and stronger. Never throw away old wooden furniture! Paint it, polish it, but keep it. It is 10 times better than the new furniture sold today.
